Adhamh Roland

So I twittered a bit about him last night and brought him up in the preceeding post, but just in case you missed it I just thought I'd collect all the info I could find about this radical queer folk artist in one good post:

Last.fm

Riot Folk collective

Myspace

And without further ado, I think we're going to make the lyrics for "Rich, White & Gay" count as today's poetry since I've been slacking.

Note: Liberal use of the word tranny & fag and other such slurs in the song (even if in a tongue & cheek way), just a fair warning if you'd like not to see or hear that.

[Ed: Slightly edited by moi...slightly.]

Rich, White, and Gay

While mainstream gays and lesbians are prioritizing
things like marriage and adoption, the rest of the community is left to fend
for ourselves against racism, classism, transphobia, ablism and more. queer
liberation means liberation for all, while gay assimilation means just
that—assimilation. this song was inspired by the anthology, that’s revolting:
queer strategies on resisting assimilation.

capo 3rd fret

well, what do you
see of the gay mainstream?
queer eye, queer folk—it’s queer t.v.
and you say
‘oh my goodness look how far we’ve come’
but that all depends on where you’re
coming from

‘cause when you say ‘we’
i think i know what you
mean
it’s that rich, white, gay and lesbian
so called community

it’s the
folks who wanna end housing discrimination
but ban youth shelters in the name
of beautification
who think their partners should have health coverage to
share
but don’t give a damn ‘bout universal health care
who fight in the
courts for tougher hate crimes
but think the racist system is working just
fine
‘cause it’s o.k. to haul off to jail the homeless and the youth
people
of color, trannys, sex workers too
as long as it’s not people like you
then
you can maintain you’re agenda
that benefits the few

it’s a gay mainstream
that votes anti-poor
as long as civil unions are accounted for
they don’t
seem to see their obvious connections
between race, class, ability, and gender
expression
they don’t think of the black drag queens that battled for us
all
hurlin’ high heels at the cops outside of stonewall
when they vote to put
more pigs on the streets
and never hear about the people that they
beat

‘cause the human rights campaign is sponsored by nike and coors
who
violate everybody’s rights but yours
they claim to advocate for queers and
trannys
and then don’t write them into nondiscrimination policies
they even
endorsed a republican candidate
thanks h.r.c. for bein’ my advocate

it’s
the log cabins, the don’t ask don’t tell
it’s consumerisms choice demographic
to sell
it’s climbin’ up the ladder leavin’ everyone behind
it’s the best
pecking order capitalism can find
it’s the upwardly mobile that want to
marry
it’s the strict butch/femme dichotomy
it’s queers who equate true
equality
with straight privilege like shows on t.v.
as long as the butt of
the jokes are still based on misogyny
and the lead roles are straight in
reality
it’s a slap in the face to kioshi
and every other
liberation warrior since the sixties
and anyone ever arrested on your
street
cuz they might lower the value of your property

when
you say we
i think i know what you mean
it’s that rich, white, gay and
lesbian so called....
well it’s not the trannys, it’s not the dykes
it’s not
anyone who’s not white
it’s not the whores, not the fags
not asians, latinas,
natives, or blacks
it’s not the homeless, the deaf or blind
it’s not fake
cocks or chests that bind
it’s not the fat folks, or the freaks
or any
combination of any sort of identity

except that rich, white, gay
that rich,
white, and gay
that rich, white, gay ...
...and sometimes lesbian
so called
community

Listen, Jesus, to the warning I give!

Okay, yeah, so...you know, being godless and everything, I'll be damned if some of my favorite movies aren't religious movies. Ben-Hur, The Ten Commandments, King of Kings, the Greatest Story Ever Told, the Last Temptation...well, it's probably just because I like the classics in general--this includes literature--it's not like I'm so repulsed by religion I can't watch a damn movie.

One of my favorite movies to watch around Easter is Jesus Christ Superstar. Let us sing and dance together in fringe.

I don't care who you are or what you are, this movie is just my SHIT. It's got fantastic songs and it's actually a different retelling of the story all together--it actually kind of strays in to the Christian Gnostic tradition a little, the story isn't entirely from Jesus's point of view and Judas is actually made as a sympathetic character. Jesus, likewise, is interesting in that he's more of an angsty figure rather than the strong, brave, wise Jesus you'd expect. He's more human, I think, in that he's not all that accepting of the fact that he has to die for this to work. Will people remember him after his death? Who's to say this will actually work? Why does he have to die anyway?

The other point is, I think, the portrayal of Pontius Pilate, again, sort of like Judas, not really wanting to do anything with this shit. But the mob wants blood and the Galileans want blood and everyone wants blood so what can he do besides say "Auugh damnit".

So naturally since we can't be singing the Bible and shit, this was and is still deemed blasphemous. Well we actually sort of like blasphemy here, so if you've managed not to see this movie or the original play, I'd highly recommend it. Watch it with me, too, I'll sing all the songs to you really loud in your ear. Although, if you're not a fan of musicals you may not be swayed either way.

So here's some of the important songs.

"Heaven on Their Minds"

"Blood Money/Damned for All Time"

Myyy temple should beeee a house of praaayerrrr~

"Gethsemane"

The Trial

"Superstar"

Boys keep swinging, boys always work it out!

Oh fuck you David Bowie, for making being a boy sound totally awesome *sigh* and...let's not act like it isn't in some respects.

At the same time, I just love how cynical this is.

I don't feel much like doing anything today other than sleeping, showering, and watching Bowie gender-bend, and it smells like the building is on fire yet again. It's an awfully nice day to die though.

Boys. BOYS.

Heaven loves ya
The clouds part for ya
Nothing stands in your way
When you're a boy

Clothes always fit ya
Life is a pop of the cherry
When you're a boy

When you're a boy
You can wear a uniform
When you're a boy
Other boys check you out
You get a girl
These are your favourite things
When you're a boy

Boys
Boys
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out

Uncage the colours
Unfurl the flag
Luck just kissed you hello
When you're a boy

They'll never clone ya
You're always first on the line
When you're a boy

When you're a boy
You can buy a home of your own
When you're a boy
Learn to drive and everything
You'll get your share
When you're a boy

Boys
Boys
Boys keep swinging
Boys always work it out

Rocking while black

I have a real post coming up soon. It's just that...well

*teary eyes*

I HAVEN'T SHOWERED PROPERLY IN DAYS. DAYS. *points furiously at clothing fortress just under window* WHY WON'T IT GO DOWN?!

So have some music. It...sort of has to do with some shit I want to get into later. It's Living Colour and King's X!

Vintage Rush

I had a bunch to talk about, but I ceased feeling like it about 5 minutes ago. I hate school.

Instead, here's Geddy Lee shutting DOWN your ear drums with "Anthem", live in 76. He does not sing that shit in concert ANY.MORE.

Dig Alex's hair. That is one fly biatch. He looks like he just escaped a Spinal Tap reunion.

Auuugh the haute coutre outfits are killing what's left of my soul. I love some 70s Rush.

Music = intelligence? You don't say

I've heard about this "study" before but I've only seen the actual data once or twice...the only reason I'm taking time out of my napping schedule to do this and blast DMX is because the Telegraph is reporting on it?

Talkin bout some dumb shit, ain't that some shit.

You may have heard of Music That Makes You Dumb. Like...a couple of years ago. It turns out the Telegraph just asked somebody (I consistently & constantly advocate asking your friends about what's up) and the results are in: listening to rap, rock & pop signal a dumb person where as listening to classical music and old standards and high end indie & rock signal a smart person. Like I.

Now, if you're like me you'll look at this chart upside down one time, think about it for five minutes, conclude that's bullshit and be on your way. This article makes me irate for a few reasons, some of those being:

-musical genres that overlap
-the genres themselves
-use of goddamn SAT scores
-what about those of us that can stand more than certain genres?

I'm not really going to go out of my way to disprove this little chart. All this list really proves, to me, is that some folks that happen to listen to certain music may be deemed dumb or unable to do well on the SAT. You may listen to Lil Wayne and fail the math portion but I guarantee you Lil Wayne could run you circles on standardized testing. That makes...little sense? Also I guess it's good for people to sit and feel smug that they listen to high end, "intelligent" bands therefore that makes them smart folks. Ehhh.

But I have always wondered, not in terms of smart vs not smart, how much of what we listen to has to do with us. We listen to certain music because we like it and more often than not because it means something to us. It moves us in a way, but does it really signify how intelligent we are or how we live? I listen to Bob Dylan, DMX, and Bach--what does that say about me other than my tastes are pretty diverse and eclectic?

Also, I hate the SAT & ACT. Hate. Absolutely. I killed the ACT mind you, I still hated it about as much as I hate letter grading systems.

And now you can go back to whatever it was you were doing.

You'll miss out on the night life

My new reasoning for staying up. Despite the fact that I'm clearly not out enjoying the "night life" *gets out a map, side eyes Johnson City*

I think it's worth it, for you to stay awake.

Early to bed and early to rise
Makes a man or woman miss out on the night life
Early to bed and early to rise
Makes a man or woman miss out on the night life

One drink call it a early night
Soon you're curled up 'neath the reading light
Or you bathe in the TV's blue tint
On your pillow an after-dinner mint

Early to bed and early to rise
Makes a man or woman miss out on the night life
Early to bed and early to rise
Makes a man or woman miss out on the night life

Early to bed so you can wait
For three buses, a trolley, and a train
I think it's worth it for you to stay awake
Maybe tomorrow you'll be a little late
But early to bed and early to rise
Makes a man or woman miss out on the night life
Early to bed and early to rise
Makes a man or woman miss out on the night life
You'll miss out on the night life

You'll miss out on the night life

This is not for you, fuck you!

Oh Pearl Jam. Sometimes I wish I could choke Eddie Vedder and thump him in the eye. But the man does good work when he's not busy trying to be Neil Young's long lost son. SOMEONE took the "godfather of grunge" moniker too seriously, Eddie.

Where did they come from, stormed my room?

Restless soul, enjoy your youth
Like Muhammad hits the truth
Can't escape from the common rule
If you hate something, don't you do it too...too

Small my table, a-sits just two
Got so crowded, I can't make room
Oh, where did they come from? Stormed my room!
And you dare say it belongs to you, to you!

This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh, not for you, ah, you

(Scream, my friends...don't call me...
Friends, no they don't scream...
My friends don't call...my friends don't...)

All that's sacred comes from youth
Dedication, naive and true
With no power, nothing to do
I still remember, why don't you? Don't you?

This is not for you
This is not for you
This is not for you
Oh never was for you, fuck you!
This is not for you
Oh, this is not for you, yeah, you...
This is not for you
Oh, not for you
Oh, you

Rob Zombie & Lionel Ritchie

and a guest appearance by...I'm not sure who. Cats & dogs living together.

I...vaguely remember this in the same way I think Armageddon has come already.

Rob so obviously wants to break it down drop down low sweep the flo' with it but he just can't find the right time. Also, I thought it was a duet if both people were singing the song not "one guy sings the song other guy comes in on every other vowel".

I don't care it still made my tomorrow.

Don't cryyyyyy~ we wish you well

Strangely enough, I like to think of this song when I deal with trolls or any other particularly unsavory people.

What's that?

Why, it's Eulogy!

He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say
We'll miss him
I'll miss him
He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say
We'll miss him
I'll miss him
We're gonna miss him
We're gonna miss him

It's so long now
We wish you well
You told us how you weren't afraid to die
Well so long
Don't cry
Or feel too down
Not all martyrs see divinity
But at least you tried

Standing above the crowd
He had a voice that was strong and loud
We'll miss him
I'll miss him
Ranting and pointing his finger
At everything but his heart
We'll miss him
I'll miss him
We're gonna miss him
We're gonna miss him

There's no way
To recall
What it was that you had said to me
Like I care at all
But it was so loud
You sure could yell
You took a stand on every little thing
And so loud

Standing above the crowd
He had a voice that was strong and loud and I
Swallowed his facade 'cause I'm so
Eager to identify with
Someone above the ground
Someone who seemed to feel the same
Someone prepared to lead the way and
Someone who would die for me

Will you?
Will you now?
Would you die for me?
Don't you fuckin' lie
Don't you step outta line
Don't you step outta line
Don't you step outta line
Don't you fuckin' lie

You've claimed all this time
That you would die for me
Why then are you so surprised
When you hear your own eulogy?

He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say
He had a lot to say
He had a lot of nothing to say

Come down
Get off your fuckin' cross
We need the fuckin' space
To nail the next fool martyr

To ascend, you must die
You must be crucified
For our sins and our lies
Goodbye

Blame it on the ah-ah-ah-ah-alcohol

So, my E key is being a dick (I have to press down on it sooo haard) , and since that's the most important key in the whole typing biz, and it's kind of ruining my nails, I won't have a bunch to say today. So...while I'm watching cartoons and taking a nap you guys can play Spot the Cameo in this Jamie Foxx video.

I see you don't quite get racism: Racism in Hip Hop

Wow, did you see that? I went a day without a post! Frankly I was busy sleeping.

...which has never stopped me before.

I just wanted to do a little post real quick, obviously I'm not dead if you've seen my Continuing Thoughts over there. Also my contact info is now at the bottom of the page in a lil box for your extreme inconvenience. Working on that.

So let me get to the meat of this. I'm going to try my damnedest tomorrow to attend a seminar the school's having about, well, Racism in Hip Hop. It has a really weak name like Racism in Hip Hop in our so called post racial era, I'll get back to you on that.

Let me just say that...I'm a punk. I don't know when, I don't know why, but when I was a youngin' I got sick of gangsta rap and the early onset of Lil Wayne (I SAW it coming but y'all didn't listen) and switched over to the local classic rock station. My life was changed. More Clash & Siouxsie Sioux than Sex Pistols, you'll often also hear me crying out, "BIRTH! SCHOOL! WORK! DEATH!" than the latest Diva Beyonce tune. I'm a punk in the deviant sense, I don't listen to the music black folks are supposed to listen to (don't get me started on how without black folks there would be no rock).

I like rock music. I like industrial, punk, classic rock. Even in the rawk & rolllll community I'm an anomaly for my tastes and, well, me skin color. It's kind of sad but what part of reality isn't. You'll hear many of my "alternative" (I'll get to that in a later day) black ladies & gents bemoan more or less this same fact: we're black, we listen to white music, white kids think we're cool in that token way, while claiming not to care. Ask your friends. I'm telling you.

So does that mean I don't know what's going on in hip hop? Nope, it does not. Recently, in the past few years or so I've more or less refound my connection with hip hop and R&B. I stuck to "old skool" but I eventually moved on up and realized that, while mainstream is garbage and always will be garbage, you know, if you look under the surface, hip hop deserves much more credit.

Hip hop embraced me much more than the rawk & rolllll community ever did and probably ever will. It seems that hanging out with the folks that shared the same musical interests as me, obviously, shared a completely different world view. Especially about the vile black hip hop which they decree as crap, racist, sexist & misogynist, and generally inferior to the Lawd Rawk & Rollllll.

Coming from both sides of the fence (did I mention I listen to baroque), I kind of laugh at the assertion that these rabid fans make about their hated nemesis, because...uhh...rock does a lot of the same things. It's misogynist, sexist, occasionally backhandedly racist, and a lot of it is crap. Don't front, yes it is. In any era. I don't care, turn on the radio right now and tell me you could stand it for three minutes.

Music differences kill me. So what do I mean when I say hip hop embraces me? I mean that hip hop can incorporate all of my interests: rock, trip hop, trance, eastern influences...as for whether or not the rawk and rollllll camp can do this as well, sure they can, but it never feels quite genuine. I suppose it's just my current reconnection with a music form I now love that's making me think this way, but I think it's true. Hip hop also, strangely enough, has a lot less annoying antagonistic "liberal progressive" head-scratching racists, and I get tired of those. Go fig.

So, the racism in hip hop seminar. I'm rather interested to see it because notice I didn't say racism doesn't exist in hip hop, but I'd like to see how the speakers address this and in what form & context. There's lots of problems with hip hop, even the underground/thinking person's hip hop and I'm curious in how we fix these things. With my long lost mistress, rawk & rolllll, I'm...less inclined, because, sometimes, some things just need to be left behind.

When/if I attend the seminar (it happens when I get back from work if I'm not exhaaaussteeed) I'll try to fix this up a bit, and I'll try to fix it up in general. I was afraid that if I stored it in drafts I'd forget all my awesome points, I'm not a good draftist :/

His world is under anaestethic, subdivided and synthetic

Pssh, so I'm not quite done being angry at the universe and its utter failings just yet, so I did that thing where I spend up my paycheck.

Well, not spend up. I just bought the latest live Rush DVD set from the Snakes & Arrows tour, released late last year. I got it for $21 :D I'M THRIFTY. See, mama?! *no she doesn't read me blog, and thank the Invisible Pink Unicorn*

Okay, so perhaps I did buy it in a random bout of depression. And I'm about to flex my nerdskill/Rush mastery. But while being pissed I suppose I had a craving for their music and treated myself to a bunch of live songs. And...dear lord, they played Digital Man. I think I wept a little at the 2008 footage. It's not really one of my favorite songs even though it sounds incredibly awesome in studio and even better live. And after playing a bunch of 2008 live songs I finally bought into the mania and now my life is complete, for now.

Forgive me for my musical ramblings, I can't seem to quite focus enough for a *serious face* post. Or even to be joking. The real question, as usual, would be to why post at all and the answer is quite literally *shrug* Oh well, we'll all deal with it eventually I suppose. And if you can't...let me know.

You've either got or you haven't got style!

Real ass swagger right'chere. Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin, and Bing Crosby are givin' y'all hell in this scene from Robin & The 7 Hoods.

I loooove the musical numbers in this movie, even if the movie on a whole is kind of so-so. The songs really keep it alive :D and this trio of bad bitches is hurting my feelings...

We suspend our disbelief, and we are entertained

Yeah, I was in a pretty upbeat mood today. Then I checked out some of my favorite blogs and in the span of about 30 minutes I became extremely depressed again.

BUT

Good news. Not suicidally depressed anymore. I think it would be more beneficial to society if I took out OTHER FOLKS rather than myself.

Yes, as usual, the Internet has ruined a good thing. I don't feel like talking much about what set me off in particular because I'd be here all day mad at way too many people, I just want to say that I have no idea how people can remain so woefully ignorant on the internet. I should change that to willful ignorance because there's no reason that, if you don't understand something, that you can't go LOOK SHIT UP and get you some damn awareness. It's like folks don't even TRY anymore.

I don't think I'll ever understand this willful lack of awareness--let's call it ignorance. Then again I don't get human nature and I don't think anyone does either. So, fuck it, really, if people want to act like the world is their navel I'll treat them like the world is their navel, i.e like they're fucking stupid as hell. I kind of hate everyone & everything right now.

I don't feel very nice so obviously today is not the day for forgiveness, compassion, or anything foolish like that. Instead, have a Rush song. Listen to Mystic Rhythms like I have for the past two days to calm myself. Forgive Geddy's voice a bit, also not helping is Alex's (blonde dude) lack of mic volume so those harmonies sound...like un-harmonies.

So many things I think about
When I look far away
Things I know - things I wonder
Things I'd like to say
The more we think we know about
The greater the unknown
We suspend our disbelief
And we are not alone

Mystic rhythms - capture my thoughts
And carry them away
Mysteries of night
Escape the light of day
Mystic rhythms - under northern lights
Or the African Sun
Primitive things stir
The hearts of everyone

We sometimes catch a window
A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

Mystic rhythms - capture my thoughts
And carry them away
Nature seems to spin
A supernatural way
Mystic rhythms - under city lights
Or a canopy of stars
We feel the powers
And we wonder what they are
We feel the push and pull
Of restless rhythms from afar

My Chemical Romance Covers Bob Dylan?!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

*horrified screams, gasps and faints*

DAMN THEM TO HELL! DAMN THEM I SAID! DAMN IT! DAMN IT!

Get me Jackob!

It has none of the feel of the original, the video is stupid, they made it more incomprehensible than the original, and if you're not going to cover the whole 11 minute epic DON'T DO ANYTHING AT ALL.

Of course...my bias may come from the fact that I don't think MCR could do justice to a cat being skinned in a blender. But...I hate Dylan covers. Not all of them, just a lot of them. It didn't help that particular cover was garbage all round. Damn young punks can't appreciate ANYTHING.

I'm already sanitizing my ears with the original...rocking in the corner of my closet. God how I do hate everything.

They're selling postcards of the hanging
They're painting the passports brown
The beauty parlor is filled with sailors
The circus is in town
Here comes the blind commissioner
They've got him in a trance
One hand is tied to the tight-rope walker
The other is in his pants
And the riot squad they're restless
They need somewhere to go
As Lady and I look out tonight
From Desolation Row

Cinderella, she seems so easy
"It takes one to know one," she smiles
And puts her hands in her back pockets
Bette Davis style
And in comes Romeo, he's moaning
"You Belong to Me I Believe"
And someone says," You're in the wrong place, my friend
You better leave"
And the only sound that's left
After the ambulances go
Is Cinderella sweeping up
On Desolation Row

Listen closely so your attention's undivided

Uh, I have so much to blog about.

...but it's Monday and I'm tired as hell, so fuck some writing. Have a song from my childhood instead.

Ready to rock this at the drop of a dime, baby
Master ace!

Listen closely, so your attention’s undivided
Many in the past have tried to do what I did
Just the way I came off them, I’m a come off
Stronger and longer, even with the drum off
And the blow that I deliver is a crisp one
Give that style back, jack, and try this one
If you’re gonna pick up the microphone when the beat is moving swift
You’d better say something I can get with
Suckers I mold in my hand just like silly puddy
You tried to shank me, spanky, but my name’s not McGilicutty
Yes yes, let’s test the waters
Skinny dipping in a slaughter
Hope you wore your water proof hightop certified
Cause I taught you I got the murder ride

And you don’t have to buy a ticket
You can afford to to get aboard and watch me as I stick it
In the face of my foes because it goes to show that I flow like a bloody nose
Raps are sweet just like a donut from Dunkin
The action posse’s at the door, and they won’t let a punk in
So you’d better try the back door
Before you get a cracked jaw
And I don’t need a black hat to be a villain
The posse is action and the label is cold chillin’
The question is how hype will you get?

When you heard this beat you was familiar with
A jam you heard before, this is a summary
A voice surrounds you, but there’s only one of me
Lyrics of dialect come from all angles
The cordless mic in my hand still strangles
They try rather well, but none are parallel
The words are spinning in your head like a carousel
And out of all the brothers I spoke to
None of them broke through, they sound like a joke, too
Their rhymes are very soft, just like terry cloth
The kid’s that standing on stage oughta hurry off
Cause that ain’t hip-hop, you little drip-drop
Trying to tip-toe but can’t touch the tip-top

Cause you ain’t tall enough
Try to brawl and scuff with a style you’re calling tough
Is about as tough as a flower
Beware of the posse raise to the third power
Cause we ain’t caring, don’t mind tearing a
Cocaine-pushing, dapper dan wearing
Walking around with a neck full of cables
My DJ laughs when you touch the turntables
Wanna be hard rock when you roll 10 deep
They told you my name but you act like you’ve been sleep
Get back, sit back and chill you no frill MCs
Slim see, but still I show skill
Words can brutalize without no mercy
Enemies wasting their last breath to curse me
I ain’t shaft with a hat and a cadillac
MCs lash out, but should I battle back?

Nah, I remain calm and collected
The stage was empty the last time I checked it
But now there’s movement there in the spotlight
I can’t make out who it is, nah, not quite
A flash of gold from a shiny medallion
A stride of pride on stage like a stallion
Oh, another one of those who try to get close to
But can’t cause a man’s supposed to
Rip the mic til the crowd is perplexed, but
With this jam here, there won’t be no next up
So peace to Craig G, Kane, g. rap, and Marley-Marl
From the music man, y’all

Once you hear the capital a you should know
Action is in eff-eff-ect-ect

Ace in action steady pace

By the time I get to Arizona

I have to admit, there's no real reason I'm posting this song other than I like Public Enemy, and I was just listening to it at the time. Soo...share.

Well, as you may know Arizona is still the only state (I think) that chooses not to celebrate MLK day. Even though it makes them look real funny it's the state's decision to do what it wants...I've always wondered why, REALLY why they chose to be all non-conformist and shit though.

Apparently Chuck D knows, though. (Warning: If you've never seen the video, it's...uh, violent.)

I'm countin' down to the day deservin'
Fittin' for a king
I'm waitin' for the time when I can
Get to Arizona
'Cause my money's spent on
The goddamn rent
Neither party is mine not the
Jackass or the elephant

20,000 nig niggy nigas in the corner
Of the cell block but they come
From California
Population none in the desert and sun
Wit' a gun cracker
Runnin' things under his thumb
Starin' hard at the postcards
Isn't it odd and unique?
Seein' people smile wild in the heat
120 degree
'Cause I wanna be free
What's a smilin' face?
When the whole state's racist
Why want a holiday F--k it 'cause I wanna
So what if I celebrate it standin' on a corner
I ain't drinkin' no 40
Thinkin' time wit' a nine
Until we get some land
Call me the trigger man
Looki lookin' for the governor
Huh he ain't lovin' ya
But here to trouble ya
He's rubbin' ya wrong
Get the point come along
And he can get to the joint
I urinated on the state
While I was kickin' this song

Yeah, he appear to be fair
The cracker over there
He try to keep it yesteryear
The good ol' days
The same ol' ways
That kept us dyin'
Yes, you me myself and I indeed
What he need is a nosebleed
Read between the lines
Then you see the lie
Politically planned
But understand that's all she wrote
When we see the real side
That hide behind the vote
They can't understand why he the man
I'm singin' 'bout a king
They don't like it
When I decide to mic it
Wait I'm waitin' for the date
For the man who demands respect
'Cause he was great c'mon
I'm on the one mission
To get a politician
To honor or he's a gonner
By the time I get to Arizona

Well I got 25 days to do it
If a wall in the sky
Just watch me go through it
'Cause I gotta do what I gotta do
PE number one
Gets the job done
When it's done and over
Was because I drove' er
Through all the static
Not stick but automatic
That's the way it is
He gotta get his
Talin' MLK
Gonna find a way
Make the state pay
Lookin' for the day
Hard as it seems
This ain't no damn dream
Gotta know what I mean
It's team against team
Catch the light beam

So I pray
I pray everyday
I do and praise Jah the maker
Lookin' for culture
I got but not here
From Jamaica
Pushin' and shakin' the structure
Bringin' down the babylon
Hearin' the sucker
That make it hard for the brown
The hard Boulevard
I need now
More than ever now
Who's sittin' on my freedom
Oppressor people beater
Piece of the pick
We picked a piece
Of land that we deservin' now
Reparation a piece of the nation
And damn he got the nerve
Another nigga they say and classify
We want too much
My peep plus the whole nine is mine
Don't think I even double dutch
Here's a brother my attitude hit 'em
Hang 'em high
Blowin' up the 90s started tickin' 86
When the blind get a mind
Better start and earn while we sing it
Now
There will be the day we know those down and who will go
By the time I get to Arizona

And lately I've become a member of the walking dead

King's X is a very cool prog rock trio, like...the US version Rush with a black singer. Yeah, I really had to point that out. You know I get tired of telling me rock = whitey music. Because...you know, they've never heard of Living Colour, an all-black ensemble that'd probably swallow most of these bands today alive. Or...Jimi Hendrix, the man WHO GAVE YOU ROCK N ROLL. White music my ass!

ANYHOW, I'm going to give you all some culture and couth, so enjoy this King's X jam, Black Flag.

A year in the hole had taken its toll
When I took a good look at me
And what a surprise, the scope of my eyes
Could only see black

And I remember someone who was taking them two by two
And lately I'd become the one who'd have laughed at you too

There was a black flag on my morning
There was a black flag on my day
There was a black flag on everything around
And I was walking backwards again

I walked in the day my usual way, looking through a 2x4
It colored my view, I couldn't see you
Or maybe I just wouldn't

And I remember the time when the sunlight fell on my head
And lately I'd become a member of the walking dead

There was a black flag on my morning
There was a black flag on my day
There was a black flag on everything around
And I was walking backwards again

And I know that I was wrong; it was up to me
If I wanted to see

And I remember the day when I saw the mask on my face
And I knew that it was time to put the thing in its place

I'd put the Black Flag on my morning
I'd put the Black Flag on my day
I'd put the Black Flag on everything around
And I was walking backwards again

It was up to me
And I know that I was wrong

Can't wait

So...yeah, I've been listening to Time Out of Mind probably a little more than I should be...I was afraid, when I first bought it, that this would be the only Dylan album I didn't like. And...ehhh, maybe it comes close to being the one I don't like, since unlike my usual collection I don't walk around quoting every single song on the album.

In other unsurprising news, I'm still Dylan's biatch.

I can't wait
Wait for you to change my mind
It's late
I'm tryin' to walk the line
Well it's way past midnight
And there's some people all around
Some on their way up
Some on their way down
The air burns and I'm tryin to think straight
And I don't know how much longer I can wait

I'm your man
I've tried to recover the sweet love that we knew
You understand
That my heart can't go on beating without you
Well your loveliness has wounded me
I'm reeling from the blow
I wish I knew what it was that keeps me loving you so
I'm breathin' hard standin' at the gate
And I don't know how much longer I can wait

Skies are gray
I'm looking for anything that will bring a happy glow
Night or day
It doesn't matter where I go anymore I just go
If I ever saw you comin' I don't know what I might do
I'd like to think I could control myself
But it isn't true
That's how it is
When things disintegrate
And I don't know how much longer I can wait

I'm doomed to love you
I been rollin' through stormy weather
I'm thinkin' of you
And all the places we could roam together
It's mighty funny
The end of time has just begun
Oh honey, after all these years you're still the one
Well I'm strollin' through the lonely graveyard of my mind
I left my life with you
Somewhere back there along the line
I thought somehow that I would be spared this day
I don't know how much longer I can wait
